Re: Much Ado About March 2014
Going to be frustrating tonight with very little rain, and the occasional flash of lightning over the Ocean.
Tomorrow will see heavy rain and thunder develop to the west and push south east, so we miss out most likely. Saying that there will be some thundery weather about through into Wednesday. Not much rain for Perth though, best we can hope for is some thunder and lightning with some big drops of rain from mid level cloud.

I think we could have the classic Perth weather where it is "rainy with little or no cloud" or we could play count the rain drops falling on the path.

The rain is getting "heavier" in that you can't count the individual drops on the patio roof any more but the drops are not noticeably wetting the path.

Perth is getting used to taking Virga. Seems like now the Virga makes it last all week.
Starts to hurt.
... Oh wait. Yeah. Virga. Rain. Yeah ummmm...

Re: Much Ado About March 2014
I remember a few years back in February 2012 the rain band from a former cyclone came over Perth. It took about 5 hours of rain to saturate the air underneath and the rain to reach the ground.
I remember it well because I was driving to Ongerup the next morning and it rained nearly the whole way.

Re: Much Ado About March 2014
not a single drop of rain in cloverdale as of yet, despite the radar showing moderate falls. it must be evaporating before it gets here

Re: Much Ado About March 2014
A bit of lightning to the NW of Perth. Saw a few more earlier as well.

that's because the lightning is evaporating before you see it

Steady rain is falling at my house. Reticurain is so predictable.
In terms of sky rain there has been enough to wet the road and the driveway only.

Re: Much Ado About March 2014
The sky to the SW looks to have greater potential for drops to reach the ground. Normally I would say that it's raining there.

Re: Much Ado About March 2014
Arrrgh that massive patch of rain/drizzle (according to the radar) is just hovering off Perth. All being wasted away into the ocean. We could use that...

Yeah, so in this situation then I guess the longer this system hangs around the more rain will reach the ground. The air needs to get nice and wet, then we can be more confident that the radar is accurate on the ground (not saying it's not accurate, just that it 'looks' above the ground). I think that's starting to happen, but not sure how much more actual rain there is for us here. Looks to be going south as the BOM predicted.
