Why does Perth never get anything like that :(

Sorry for spamming Adelaide in the Perth thread, but not much else to do with the lack of weather :P

From WA forum: Wonder if that was rotating though or was just a scud cloud? I've seen a lot of 'funnels' like this out to sea recently, too far to tell if they were rotating. I photographed a nice ropey waterspout like thing near Mindarie! Very thin and hard to see in the photo though. If the one in this pic was rotating - jealousy. :|

Wow! Shame we don't get any of that over here. Image

Looking on the WZ radar at the moment and there is a huge line of storms pretty much all the way from the NT/SA border just East of Oodnadatta all the way down to Adelaide and moving across the boarder towards Victoria.

All the news stories over on WZ have headlines relating to flooding and storms.

But hey, at least we managed to get a whopping 1.4mm of rain last night though! Image

Final rainfall totals:

I posted this on another forum:
When was the last time Adelaide had 70mm in a day?

Never...

The previous record for ALL of December combined was 72.8mm in 1998, so you got more than your wettest December on record in one day, similarly your wettest 24hr in December was 37.4mm also in 1998, you got about twice that.

January has 42.2m record for all month combined, and February 63.0mm combined - you beat those 2 also.

Looking at 24hr records... Jan 28.0, Feb 33.8, Mar 51.8, Apr 38.2, May 41.2, Jun 54.6, Jul 32.8, Aug 43.2, Sep 43.2, Oct 55.6, Nov 44.8.

So Adelaide just recorded it's wettest 24hrs on record, and wettest December.

Someone's comment:

What i don't understand is why BOM doesn't issues tornado warnings for storms like this, this storm was a typical lp supercell and it was returning Hook Echo signatures on BOM radar

normally in the USA they would be issuing tornado watch and warnings when seeing such a supercell on the radar,

funny to see roofs and structural damages, makes me wonder what was in that storm i saw some interesting pics of funnel clouds earlier on some forums from this storm

its about time BOM stopped acting naive and get real about tornadoes in Australia, more warnings are needed before a tornado like the one that hit the suburbs of bucca hits a built up area and many people die

just this year many tornadoes have been filmed and shown on the news in many states of Australia, and a terrifying night tornado in SA, Also the tornado in northern VIC and the multiple waterspouts and tornado to hit northern NSW

South-east Qld records record low December temperatures:

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) says dry, still conditions caused temperatures to drop across south-east Queensland overnight.

Brisbane recorded its lowest December minimum in eight years, with 14.7 degrees Celsius.

Senior forecaster Tony Auden says other parts of the south-east were 7 to 9 degrees below average.

But he says the cold snap will not last long.

"We'll see a fair bit of humidity start to return to the south-east today, and that'll act as a blanket tonight," he said.

"We'll have a bit more insulation and still have a fine day and fairly clear night, but temperatures should be closer to average tonight, before we start to see rain areas develop again on Wednesday."
