New Cyclone name list for Australia

Postby Monsoonal-Maiden » Tue Aug 12, 2008 9:09 am

Hey guys, It's been a while since I popped in here, but I found something to share that's new. (please don't burst my bubble and tell me you already know!)

The BOM have changed their cyclone names to a single list for all regions. So this season we start back at with A for Anika.

Goodaye MM, nice to hear from yah again! :) I didn't even know that little bit of news about the BoM TC offices changing to the one list, so definitely no bubble bursting from me. :) speaking of which only 50 odd cyclones until we see another TC Tim, looking forward to that one! few interesting names on there too, looking forward to TC Iggy, just as long as it doesn't go 'pop'.

Only 50'ish more cyclones to go....is that all?
I am so sick of nothing but blue sky (although having said that, it's overcast today) which is why I have been going through all my weather links....bored out of my brain!

hey 50 cyclones is only 10 years, or 5 if we get a few decent years.

I don't know how you guys survive with all that blue, we've had nothing but mainly blue skies for around 10 day now and I'm ready to dust of the weather dvds to ease the boredom, I guess you guys get other hobbies for the boring season? :)

Anyone had a cyclone and it has your first name in it?

Tropical Cyclone Vincent 12-15 February 2001

Tropical Cyclone Vincent formed on the 12th of February, around 900 kilometres northwest of Onslow. The system formed from a low in an active monsoon trough with strong monsoonal winds to the north. Vertical shear and strong monsoonal forcing prevented the low from intensifying for a number of days. Once formed the system tracked east-southeastward in the monsoon trough. The system had intensified to category two by the 13th but a resumption of vertical shear and continued strong monsoonal forcing to the north weakened the system to category 1 on the 14th and the structure became poor. The low level centre continued to track east-southeastwards in the monsoon trough while the deep convection became increasingly displaced to the west through shear. The system weakened to below cyclone strength on the 15th and the low level centre crossed the coast south of Broome late on the 15th. At this time there was still a large area of monsoonal gales to the north of the trough, however winds on the southern side of the trough were only moderate.
Yeppoon Annual Average Rainfall is (BOM) = 982.5mm
2012 Yeppoon 976.8mm
2014:1114.2mm
