What is in your Emergency Kit?

Postby Monsoonal-Maiden » Mon Oct 20, 2008 11:44 am

The following I lifted off the FESA website, but I thought it would be a good idea to see what everyone else has in their kit? What sort of things do you stock up on? What do you do to prepare?

Maybe you could share some camping recipes/foods?

Come on guys...I'd love to see some more Northerners post this season :) 8)

MM choccie is at the top of my list :D Fu dunno about beer flavour but it does come in rum, bourbon, flavoured liqueur, whiskey and some others :D I would put beer in my kit too though. Oh yeah add matches and candles to the list and put all documentation, photos etc in plastic ziploc bags.

Apart from the obvious....here's a few things we do. I'll add more as I think of them :)

With Monty (I think), our town was cut from the rest of the world for a few weeks, so it's a good idea to have enough food & water in the pantry to last the whole family at least 2 weeks, not just a few days.

Fill the car (we have a 180 litre tank that would get us to Geraldton if needed)
Fill the bath with water - very handy if you lose water for days afterwards!
Buy extra cans of butane gas

Make sure pruning saw/chain saw is easy to get at and not at the back of the shed with everything else piled in on top of it!
Get the cat carrier inside also, another thing that's not so handy at the back of the shed!

We also pack the back of the car with bedding, change of clothes and enough food for 24 hours in case of a last minute dash to the emergency shelter...I doubt it would ever come to that, but if you prepare, you wont need to. That's a good insurance policy!

and it's ok???

I have a can of Harvest shepherds pie (blue lable) in the pantry to try. I'm not game to open it though after all the other crap we have tried to date lol. I'll have to give it a go now :)

we do like the Kraft braised steak and onion though, even the kids will eat that :)

If you find it necessary (due to lack of other provisions) to eat camp pie its good cut in 10mm slices and fried up with a couple of eggs.. In the event that you forgot the matches you can eat it raw, which is more than you can do with eggs
