I'm 16 I learnt to surf on a short board in probably about 5 sessions by myself of about 2 hours each. By the 5th time I could ride off the wave, if you persist at it and can snowboard you should be fine. Longboards are easier to learn on first and try to learn in small conditions that are not barreling.
