Yeah for decent snow on the Stirlings and Porongurups you need the 500mb temps to be at least -28C and the 850mb temps to be well below below 0C, at least -2C or -3C. A good strong southerly push helps. To get a set-up favourable for snow conditions we'd need a strong cold front with a really deep low pressure system to the south and a strong high to the southwest. The greater the push from the south, the better.
