Mystery AWS

Postby Fu Manchu » Tue Sep 11, 2012 8:20 pm

I found a weather station in Butler today. Seems to have an anemometer, humidity/temp and rainfall. an antenna also.Wasnt aware BoM had one there and wouldn't think Ag Dept would have one in an urban area.
Dept of Education would have no need at all for one of those.
Any ideas?

I can't find it on BoM.
Maybe I haven't looked enough?
Nearest is Tamala Park (Mindarie)

Found it :)

Bugger me its a Dept of Education owned station.
Would be good if they linked this with the BoM network.

A unique feature of our school is a weather station that directly monitors conditions and controls watering in neighbouring housing estates.

Well it may not be Dept of Education owned. It would have been commissioned by Satterley when developing the estates there. I guess City of Wanneroo would now own it?

I'll check out BOM & see what the go is. I don't think they might be aware of this private station. Also they might not use it depending on specs of the site etc.

It's a bloody good site Brayden. Located next to Brighton Community Garden.
Surrounded by the School oval and bush land a short distance away.

Its recording more data than OceanReef and a far better site than Tamala (Mindarie)

Emailed a colleague about the station. Pretty much the equip. will not be in spec. with the Bureau.
