Postby silvercloud » Tue Sep 01, 2015 3:53 pm

Chilly start to what some consider is the first day of spring. 3.2 here in Donnybrook and forecasting 2 tomorrow morning. Had a lovely 12mm in the gauge this morning too.

Cheers for the post title Chartphred :)

It's really cold at Mt Lawley currently 2.9C which is just the minimum reported at 6.35 am of 2.8C.

In these "Ugg" boots I'm not going outside until it warms up to at least 10C.

It seems like the rain around Perth has largely been missing the automated rain gauges. Only Perth 7.8 mm and Perth Airport 12.8 mm have exceeded 5 mm to 10.60 pm.

My nephew in Greenwood has had 15.5 mm to 10.45 pm and the total at my house in Greenwood at 10.15 pm was 13.5 mm. There have been further showers since then. My nephew and got the bulk of the rain front when a line of showers chucked it down for about 20 minutes.

Perth is on target for its earliest 30 degree spring day on record.

Spring is in the air in the nation's west, with the very warm airmass over northern Australia set to be drawn into the west. A particularly strong frontal system is the culprit for the heat, causing northerlies to drag the heat into the western capital ahead of its arrival on Thursday.

Tomorrow, Perth is likely to reach an unseasonably toasty 31 degrees. In 119 years of records, Perth's previous earliest 30 degree day in the warming season was the 12th of September, recorded in 1939.

From Thursday to Saturday the weather will be fairly wild in the nation's southwest as the first front crosses on Thursday, followed by another pair of fronts traversing on late Friday and Saturday. These will drop the temperature and bring a run of fairly windy days with a series of showers.

Calmer weather will finally return on Sunday and Monday, although it will probably be a while before the 30 degree mark is eclipsed again.

I hope we just get passing showers on Friday night and not a front. I don't want to get drenched!

Just listened to Mark Paul(l) duty forecaster on ABC 720 and he said the first half of the football was not going to be to bad but that the second half was was likely to be quite showery.
