Next couple of mornings are gonna be cold, hoping for the Ap to get down into the negatives for first time this winter. Perth forecast going for 3c Tuesday morning and 2c Wednesday morning with area's of frost atm.

I was looking at Jandakot's min this morning.....

I don't get why Perth gets so low mins generally in winter if it is relatively close to the coast? Is it the land winds that cool it down?

A lack of wind also. Air moving in from over cold land at a slow rate.
Low lying areas will see the cold air (being denser) settle more than higher areas and so pick up the coldest temps.

Vinny, I should also mention that whilst these temps are not unheard of in the "winter" season, they are certainly something we are more accustomed to seeing in August-Sept.

It must be a harsh shock stepping outside that door to record obs or just finish shift and head back to the car. Crank that heater for sure. A few minutes into the trip, that heat starts coming through the vents and it's soooo good :)

supersmell there is a discount on 4 laminton fingers and the rule of thumb to help out with the blood flow.

Our winter is stuffed up too, the complete opposite of yours warmer than normal ( Averaging 16 at night instead of 13) , should be like a Perth spring here 22 and 12 at night. Today was 27 and 28 in Rockhampton. Yuk and dry air no wind etc.

We've only had 3 night at or below 12 degrees here and that is not "typical" for here. This isn't Cairns lol. Must be El Nino?

Supposed to be 12 tonight here but that doesn't feel cold enough :) A 7 deg night is possible here so will have to wait till maybe next week.

The last few mornings have been testing my endurance. Wearing a t-shirt hasn't helped. It's all good once I get working and warmed up a bit.
It's not like I'd wear just my undoes on such a brutal morning. Who the hell would do that?!

Pretty big variation in temps at present. Coastal areas on 17/18C and then about 10 degrees cooler east of the CBD...

Yep. Dry, light winds allows the air to cool faster because the latent heat of water content in the air is significantly lower. Moist air cools slower because it releases the latent heat into the surroundings as it cools, hence keeping that air warmer for longer.

That's why Albany hardly ever gets as cold as Perth overnight in winter as it is nearly always under the influence of moist onshore winds.

Had a couple of unexpectedly heavy showers around 8.00 pm last night.

There was 2.5 mm in the rain gauge this morning.
