Quite gusty last night.
Cape Leeuwin had a 70kmh gust and winds around the metro area generally ranged from 50-70kmh.
Paraburdoo had a 70kmh gust and Bedout Island recorded an 80kmh gust.
A couple of kimberley places recorded gusty winds.

Telfer has had 63.4mm

The fire in Ellenbrook is not cool. Must be so scary and so soon after the the awful experiences of hills residents the other week. :(

Personally I blame this Heatwave on my nephew Steven he loves the hot weather. Personally I can handle maximums up to 35C with no problems. Above 40C maximums I find are just oven like.

A few years back I wouldn't have agreed but I do now. Any long spells of days over 35 are becoming plain demotivating.

I can imagine it would be quite uncomfortable when it is not the norm. Up here in the Pilbara it is but I must say we still see people get overwhelmed by it, particularly when they are not acclimatized.

ABC News wrote:Warm weather in Western Australia's Shark Bay region has attracted some unusual beach goers to Monkey Mia.

With the mercury hovering around the 40s early this week, local Katie Hughes says five emus decided to take a dip and cool their heels yesterday.

"It was really really hot, probably around 41 degrees, and we noticed them having a stroll along beach," she said.

"They got to the water's edge, had a look, had a look at each other and then in they went!

"They crouched down and had a bit of a roll around to cool off.

"It was awesome, I just had to take a photo."

Ms Hughes says the emus are regular visitors to the beach but she has never seen them go for a swim.

It's the height of wildlife season in Monkey Mia, which attracts plenty of tourists for its dolphins.

"There are tonnes of other animals around at the moment," said Ms Hughes.

"We've got a good selection of dolphins and dugongs, we're seeing them every day and they're pretty rare.

"We've got a couple of species of turtles, sharks and an amazing number of rays too."

The Bureau is forecasting cooler weather for the region for the rest of this week, with temperatures dropping to the 30s.

Every year Perth is forecast to be affected by a cyclone, and almost every year it doesnt happen.

I wonder if the feature in around 10 days will break that trend?

And another cyclone predicted by GFS to form straight after and move west. GFS prediction from Weatherzone for 0800 on Wednesday 05/02:

I just want rain like decent rain. Tired of SE Australia and Goldfields stealing all the NW WA weather.

That sound on a tin roof.

The atmosphere is building with anticipation of rain. You give up waiting and get on with some other more important task. Then there is "that" sound. With a soft thud. It is a big rain drop. Then other after a short pause. Then another and another. It gets more rapid until the sound is almost like a white noise. It stops everyone going about mundane tasks with it's song. The people always come forward toward windows and door ways. Verandahs and porches to enjoy the spectacle.
A nice moment.

Oh man! I got off a plane late late Thursday night, and home by 2am yesterday...man, it's hot! Come back from negative temps to 35+ blech. Could barely handle the cold only to come back to heat. And off to Onslow soon for worse heat :P Luckily I worked all day in the aircon today hehehehe.

Hmm. Possible storms for Australia Day.

Anyone remember those amazing storms with the fireworks and the comet? That was Australia Day, right? A few years ago. I remember an Australia Day with lots of lightning, Metallica and alcohol on my balcony...good times.
