Whoa, they (Esperance) only got to 27 today. That'd be a 19C rise in one day!

Intrigued that they're still expecting 23 for a min tonight. The way things are going we'll be lucky if it dips below 30!

Well Fu is always banging on about how much cooler things are with garden/ greenery/even lawn near a house. had the perfect opportunity to experience this earlier this evening. Out the front it felt pleasant and cool. We have garden/lawn there. Out the back we have paving and gravel.. only a few plants ( we are on 3/4 of an acre). It was still warm and sticky. No breeze in either area at the time I compared so this was purely the feel of the air etc. Glad our bedroom windows open into the front yard and that the kids bedrooms windows open on the the little bit of native bush we do have in our back yard so the temp there isn't quite as warm as the rest of the back yard near the house.

New Year brings end to Perth's record heat wave:

http://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/new- ... wave/23113

Brett Dutschke, Tuesday January 1, 2013

Perth is welcoming in 2013 with a cooler change, bringing an end to its record heat wave.

The city is forecast a maximum of 33 degrees on New Years Day, two degrees above the January average but its coolest day in over a week. The rest of this week will be even cooler, only reaching the mid-to-high 20s. There is even a chance of a shower on Thursday.

For many this comes as a great relief from the week-long heat wave which ended with a scorching 42.1 degrees on New Years Eve, 13 degrees above the December average. It was still about 30 degrees at midnight.

The last seven days of 2012 averaged a maximum temperature of 39.3 degrees, making it the hottest week in 80 years. In February 1933 there was a week which average a maximum of 40.7 degrees, the hottest week on record.

The last seven days of 2012 was also Perth's hottest December week in 116 years of records.

Each of these seven days exceeded 37 degrees, which also equals the record, set in February 1988 and December/January 1961/1962.

Heat will return to Perth and on the weekend with the city reaching the mid-to-high 30s on both days but this will only be a short burst. A cooler change will arrive late on the weekend, dropping temperatures by five-to-10 degrees.

Australia's Dry December:

http://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/aust ... mber/23114

Rob Sharpe, Tuesday January 1, 2013

Most of Australia's state capitals had one of their driest December's in years, with more hot and generally dry weather on the way.

Adelaide's December was the driest month since January 2009 with only 12mm of rain. This also made it the driest December in 10 years.

Melbourne was also left with thirsty parks and gardens, gaining just 30mm which is half the December average of 59mm.

Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra and Darwin all had drier than average December's as well, with Brisbane recording the lowest December rain in 12 years.

The drier than usual conditions have been primarily due to a dominance of high pressure over much of the country, which has led to less cloud cover and rainfall. Similar conditions are likely to continue for much of January, with reduced cloud cover also allowing heat to build over the country.

Perth has already recorded a record heat wave, averaging a daily maximum temperature of 39 degrees over the last seven days. The city also had its driest December in three years, but more notably it was its hottest December in 13 years.

The heat that has been impacting Perth will move east through the country this week bringing temperatures in the high 30's and even the low 40's to Adelaide and possibly Melbourne.

During the next week-and-a-half, Sydney and Canberra will also experience temperatures soaring into the mid 30's and possibly 40's in western Sydney next week.
