Yup. Won't have time to put the main stuff up until at least tonight.

May do a 'still' teaser soon though :-)

Okay, here are some more photo's of Thursday afternoon's exit from Argyle. There's some video coming soon.

I thought I'd better give some background here. In the previous phase of the project I am working on, I took quite a few photo's of some infrastructure from the air (from the flight) and then added descriptions and printed them out. They spread around the site like wildfire and people kept asking for updates etc. So, the arrangements were put in place for me to have a good seat, be allowed to shoot the pics and all that stuff. However, a late departure and 'bad' weather stymied that plan, as you can see. So, I hatched Plan B. I think I did pretty well. I did, however, miss the double CG straight in front of my face 1 or 2 secs after I'd stopped videoing at one point. Bugga. But, you get that.

Trust me, there wasn't a lot of editing done on these other than some exposure changes and some WB adjustments, it really did look like this:

Here's the link to the short video I've done so far. It's quite time consuming, so may not finish it this weekend:

http://vimeo.com/32353730 - it's 720p, so Vimeo may not be able to stream to you without pausing. So, I recommend pushing play and then pause immediately to let it cache before you press play again.

Feedback welcome.

Argh! I exported the 'complete' version I was happy with, but Final Cut Pro X appears to have munched the raw data and I will have to do it all again :-(

I may upload the rendered footage, we'll see, but there are a few changes I already want to make. Bloody computers - I HATE software where it takes saving out of your hands, I want to decide when to save, not the damned software. It didn't, did it.

Simon: These are breathtaking! I cannot wait to see the full video and those photos are simply magnificent! I always have issues taking photos out of planes. Do you use some sort of filter? Someone once told me that they did. I have seen amazing things from planes and cannot always capture it the way you have done here. Beautiful. Can't wait to see more.

Jess, thanks. No, no filters. I think 3 things all lined up here. 1 - I had my camera, which is a good one, let's face it, with one of my best lenses on it. 2 - Nature threw on a spectacular display. 3 - I have a pretty steady hand and had prepared and chatted to the crew about my intentions :-). Oh, a 4th - LUCK. That said, if I was on a commercial flight, probably wouldn't have got away with it.

I am just reassembling the clips, adding the titles again, inserting the music, retiming to fit and then I will upload the video. It's a shade over 5 minutes long.

Nice cb's there Simon. :) Any idea how high they were? They look fairly high-based, low-topped to me.

Pete, we were about 60 miles west of the airport when these particular clips start, so I would say we were at cruise height of 20,000 or 30,000 feet. It's a bit hard to tell on these flights, as they usually give that info at the start, before takeoff. None of that this time, they were pretty keen to get off the ground before this one hit the airport!

Some possible candidates for the BoM weather calendar.

Thanks Fu, I thought they were pretty cool :-). One of my good mates asked for full sized copies of four of them for his desktop. He's a good photog too, so that was pretty sweet. Not sure about BOM calendar though, you think?
