Postby Pete » Wed Aug 10, 2011 9:11 pm

Found this while browsing a US forum. It was a HDR shot taken by a photojournalist over there. :)

Good god! How did he manage to capture such a rare shot? I never imagined lightning to be so...enormously thick! I mean, logically, yes, but seeing it that way is just incredible. I was once sitting in my friend's kitchen when lightning hit just across the street from her apartment. My friends in the other room saw it - literally across the street, and said it blinded them. This was in Iowa - the number of lightning strikes per second in those storms is astounding. I am still upset that I didn't see the lightning, although it lit up the entire apartment and all of the electricity flickered. It felt like a bloody earthquake!

Not sure and you maybe right Fu, because there's been so many sharing of it over facebook, I'm not sure who the original owner is now. Should of put their name or signature on it.

Na it's like I'm sure its been posted even on this forum before years ago?
Then it was a Brissie lightning strike I think. If it's not the same pic, its bloody similar.

There's something a bit wrong with the light in that top one? Like the light is really low and the the cloud is not illuminated from underneath?
Still looks pretty bloody cool!

Bing! Kane Quinnell circa 2005!!!! Plagerised photo!

Just found it in my lightning photos file. He had posted it on WZ from memory when it happened. Had a water mark in bottom right of pic.
and bugger me here it is from the Sydney Morning Herald November 2, 2005.
I'd be mentioning this link on FB and put that so and so low life to task over plagerising the pic as theirs.

Also used in the 2006 BoM weather Calendar.

:-o  Yeah I'll do that and I'll also report that post and hopefully they'll get done for it. It's gone viral among all our U.S. friends on facebook, everyone's sharing it and congratulating the "owner" on a great shot. X(

Besides, no one in the US uses trailers
Every good Aussie back yard has one.
Kane's is no different.

Nope. :( Can't find the photo now. Lost in the newsfeed and I can only go back so far. It was one of our FB friends (we have 1000 friends of FB) so may have to go through them one by one to find it. #:-s @-) Will take me forever. I'll look harder in the morning. Should of posted the link. :(
