I received this e-mail
Space Weather News for Feb. 15, 2011
http://spaceweather.com

MAJOR FLARE: Earth-orbiting satellites have detected the strongest solar flare in more than four years. At 0156 UT on Feb. 15th, giant sunspot 1158 unleashed an X2-class eruption. X-flares are the strongest type of x-ray flare, and this is the first such eruption of new Solar Cycle 24. The explosion that produced the flare also sent a solar tsunami rippling through the sun's atmosphere and, more importantly, hurled a coronal mass ejection toward Earth. This raises the possibility of geomagnetic storms in the days ahead. Visit http://spaceweather.com for images and updates.

woohoo an x-class flare
if this keeps up - it has the potential to seriously bugger up satellite comms and nav, power grids etc

well the wind has dropped, and I mean right away to zilch
which is good
and we had some drizzle about 2 1/2 mm, which is also good
because without the wind it can soak in and actually do some good

currently 19.7, overnight 18.4

Overcast, currently 19.5 overnight 17.4
a little windy, not as much as the BOM at the airport ( 30 / 39 km/hr )
1mm in the gauge

but it's the ants that worry me
they're up to something
and I think they think something weathery is going to happen

Albany's weather has been rather boring so I thought I would pinch this from spaceweather.com
WEEKEND AURORAS: On Saturday night, Feb. 19th, the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) near Earth tipped south. This opened a crack in Earth's magnetosphere; solar wind poured in and fueled a display of Northern Lights around the Arctic Circle:

sounds like a recipe for some sci-fi stuff
a crack in the magnetoshpere and Dr Who and half a million aliens popped out
Dr Who would be fighting them in quarries all over England, and the aliens as usual would destroy New York first

currently 19.5, overnight 18.8
overcast ( the magnetoshpere crack has been polyfillered )
and windy ( BOM has 26 / 35 km/hr )

I feel sorry for any friendly aliens that might try to visit earth

The friendly ones head straight for Albany, so it's cool. Just keep the beers in the esky ready and have a few extra steaks in the freezer just in case.

A beautiful morning for occasional aliens to visit Albany, it was a lovely starry night but as Albany closes at 5pm any moving lights in the sky were the little critters looking for somewhere else to bunk down. And it was a starry night because I was out on the south coast with the SES doing some night manoeuvres, at a place called the Gap. I was on Comms which is good because I am over tramping through the bush or whatever. And more importantly - the comms is never far from catering.

currently 18.9, overnight 17.7
fine, clear blue skies all round, no wind, no rain

Just noted forecast "heavy showers" for Saturday, does that mean that the tropical air from Ex Dianne is going to mix up with a front....???
cheers FE

( although the BOM has 20 / 28 km/hr at the airport )

FE : for Saturday ? 4 day forecast map has rain from Carlos affecting the SW and a front passing late Saturday
we could do with some decent rain

well when I got up there wasn't much cloud and now it has clouded over
and being rubbish day no doubt it will become windy again

Well as President Joolia says "moving forward"
Currently 20.2 and no overnight temps because that's not moving forward
The cloud is moving forward over Albany
The wind is moving forward
The BOM has 15 km/hr with "sudden-move-forwards" up to 17 km/hr
