Albany & South Coast Spring 2012

Postby floppy » Tue Sep 04, 2012 11:06 am

Time to start a new thread, and with the lead up to the end of the world later this year
Pete and I will try to keep you updated with South Coastal weather

Spring started in Albany with a couple of fine, sunny albeit windy days
but yesterday and today have been rather grotty with the passage of the front
some heavy showers this morning and some brief thunder
see the thread in the severe weather

Haven't posted in here for a while hey! I've been busy with study and stuff, but anyway I'll try and post more. It's been a nice few days in Albany since the weather cleared, not too warm at this stage with light to moderate NE winds. Some good clear nights around at the moment so astro-photography might be on the cards for people who have the decent equipment for it. :)
Currently 11.7 degrees, overnight low 8.1 degrees, today's max 21.2 degrees
Humidity 88%
Pressure 1021.4 and steady
Winds NE at 11.8km/h
No rain

Pete is very busy studying so we'll post when there is something significant happening
or a change in the weather
for the last few days it has been mostly sunny, partly cloudy with temps around 20 C

BSCH has some storm potential for around 3 - 6 pm
BOM has a low at the south end of a trough sitting in the Great Southern for Monday
could get interesting ....

Been a busy weekend for me but I'm back! We've had mainly sunny conditions in Albany over the last few days, been cloudy at times though. Today became overcast this afternoon as easterlies picked up but tomorrow should be a different story with more NE winds. Chance of storms tomorrow evening as this trough deepens and so far conditions look good - it will depend on the capping and whether these are surface based storms. If they're mid-level based, then the mid-level winds should assist with lifting.
Currently 15.5 degrees, overnight low 9.4 degrees, today's max 18.9 degrees.
Humidity 83%
Pressure 1022hPa and steady
Wind E'ly at 15km/h
No rain

been a funny week really, so in summary
some heavy rain late in the week, which was good
not a lot a wind with it so it really poured, good for dams, gardens etc
we did get some small hail though
so by the 28 /09 we had 22mm of rain the gauge and 18mm the previous day
40 mm for two days is good, and 139mm for the month so far

however it has fined up, finally clearing this morning
the BoM @ Albany airport reached 23.6 degrees C, humidity down to 32 %
wind has swung around to the North 10-15 km/hr, gusts to20 km/hr
tomorrow forecast to be 30 degrees

That was pretty sad about those firies getting burned, hey. :| Seems the fire's been put out, thanks to rain and light winds.

It's been a partly cloudy day today with some showers around in the onshore winds. Fairly cool conditions, hopefully the spring like weather will return sometime soon and we start getting afternoon storms. In the mean time it's going to be a partly cloudy week in Albany with not a hell of a lot happening in the way of weather.
