Maybe a tad higher than normal, but it is closer to the tropics vin, QLDers I know in aquaponics reckon it's nothing unusual, Darwin is mid 30's and it's winter there to, learmonth in WA is almost 30, and Carnarvan almost same level as Brisbane 25's with cloud and wind, when that goes they will also be close to 30, Townsville which is also experiencing cloud and wind has similar temps to Carnarvan. Man I have to much time on my hands :|

Considering Brisbane averages 22.4 deg (For their maxmums) for Aug (According to weatherzone) 33 deg is 11 above average, so I guess that is a bit higher than normal for August.

I was looking in the west australian (the actual paper , not their website) and in their "on this day" section in the weather page it says on this day (20/Aug) in 1940 somthing I think it was 1941 or 1943 (It was definitely in the 1940's) that Perth had 27 deg . So 27 in Perth in August has happened before , which i didn't know until then.

Considering the highest August max for the Brisbane regional office site is 32.8C and they are now actually forecasting 33C for Monday, I'd say its fairly unusual. ;) It definitely wasn't that hot when I was over there at this time last year thats for sure, although it did get into the high 20's at the end of my stay, which was around the first week of September.

I was going by guys that live there permanently that are pissed because it is too hot to grow trout all year round, they did say temps are nearing 30 which isn't that unusual, Image I don't know as I don't love there, statistics are not always correct, always ask a local

Hot weather in Queensland shatters records
Martin Palmer, Saturday August 22, 2009 - 17:11 EST
Hot, unseasonal weather has pushed temperatures into the 30's and close to 40 degrees in parts of Queensland, smashing records.

The hot weather was felt right across the state on Saturday, with the tropics escaping the worst of it. The Maranoa, Channel Country and Central Highlands all bore the brunt of the heat, as the mercury soared up to 14 degrees above average.

Quilpie, in the Channel Country seared to 36 degrees, their hottest August day since records began in 1957. Mitchell, in the Maranoa, recorded a blistering 34 degrees, their hottest August day in 39 years of records. Taroom, in the Central Highlands hit 35, their hottest August day in at least 52 years. Birdsville's 38 degrees was one of the hottest in the state.

The record heat is truly exceptional and is more reflective of temperatures that would be expected in the height of the summer. Quilpie's 36, for example, is only one degree below that of the January average of 37.

The hot weather is set to continue into the start of the new week as warm westerly winds draw further warmth from the interior. Maximums on Sunday and Monday could be even higher with further records set to tumble.
